"No"bile Me

I just read an article written about MobileMe on another blog and can't agree more. Compared to even free services, MobileMe is a disaster. It doesn't even integrate with Apple's own iPhoto. Faces and Places are both not supported. You can read the article above, but here is the comment I left at the blog:

"You can post web pages to any server using iWeb, but it's much more complicated than using MobileMe.

This review really does sum up MobileMe pretty well, but as a member of MobileMe, I'll add a few more gripes. iPhoto's Faces and Places features are not supported in MobileMe Pictures.

20GB of storage space is terrible for $99. I can get that for free from Windows Live. There is no Social Networking to speak of. There is no homepage. Each MobileMe service is like an island. None talk to each other and are not integrated together at all. When you sign in, your simply brought to your mail.

It is SLOW. Even after Apple claims to have fixed performance issues in MobileMe, it literally takes 3 seconds or more to delete ONE email using Apple's own Safari web browser on a MAC. Trust me, 3 seconds is an eternity in internet webmail. Awful!

I think you are right. If you can get an online storage space from someone else, simply use Google. You won't spend anything, have a better user experience, and get ALL of the major features of MobileMe. Only thing lacking with Google is Mac settings sync, Mac keychain sync, bookmark syncing, and seamless integration with the mail.app."

Here is a review I left on Cnet:

"I've used MobileMe for over a year. I have stopped my subscription.

The web services of MobileMe are split between Mail, Pictures, Address Book, iCal, and iDisk. None of the services, with the exception of Mail and Address Book, work together in any way. For instance, you cannot add pictures to your emails from your online picture albums.

Mail is painfully slow and unreliable. It can take up to 3 seconds to delete one email using Safari and a Mac. IMAP, SMTP, and POP services routinely go down. Mail lacks tens of features other free email services have had for years.

MobileMe Pictures doesn't even fully support Apple's own iPhoto with Faces and Places. There are no ways to tag who is in a photo and no ways to easily tag where the photo was taken, although the service will display any GPS info embedded in the photo as coordinates.

Address Book and iCal are decent applications, but don't communicate with each other or Pictures.

With iDisk, you only get 20GB of storage and your paying $99 for it. You can get that for free from Windows Live. Plus, in Windows Live, your pictures are logically stored as a part of your SkyDrive, instead of separately with no easy way to track how much space your pictures are using. iDisk syncs well with a Mac, but other than that, has no worthwhile features and its web interface is atrocious and difficult to use.

There are no social features to speak of, unlike almost every other free service.

So, in conclusion, when you buy MobileMe, the only worthwhile features are Mac computer syncing and Back To My Mac. You could literally replace MobileMe with Gmail (for Mail and Address Book), Google Sync (for iPhone/Touch syncing), Picasa Web Albums (To replace MobileMe Pictures, plus you could use the Picasa application or the iPhoto uploader for Picasa Web Albums), and Mosy or another online storage service (to replace iDisk) and you would have all the major features of the service for free. FREE. Not $99 a year for the rest of your life.

Epic Fail, Apple. Galactic Epic Fail."

The Failures of the Obama Administration

I understand that the administration is only a year old. But didn't you expect more from President Obama when you helped elect him? Here is a letter I wrote to the White House tonight:

"Right now, you are hearing from a very sad young democrat. When I went door to door for the President during his campaign, when I displayed his logo, when I chanted "Yes We Can!" I believed in the president and his stated positions. Now, I don't. The president has lost my confidence.
In health care, where is the president as members of his own party and independents who rely on his party water down or even obstruct a comprehensive universal public option? Nowhere. The president is mum, making no definitive stands. Where is the president while the rights of GLBT citizens are put up for a popular vote, and more and more GLBT servicemen and women are discharged? Nowhere. He'll talk and talk. But he and the DNC did nothing as rights are denied again and again. And no executive order has been made stopping enforcement of DADT until congress gets with the program. Why isn't Dick Cheney, George Bush, and company in jail for war crimes, or at least being investigated for the horrors they brought against the country? The presidency of George Bush will likely go into history as one of the most corrupt ever, but this administration continues to turn a blind eye. Why are almost all of the planks in the president's campaign platform for young people being ignored? College is more expensive as college presidents make millions. Jobs are nowhere to be seen. Wall Street gets billions of dollars fatter on government money, making - get this - PROFITS. There has been zero in way of reforms on Wall Street and no indication that this is even a priority in congress. Actions speak louder than words. I'm sorry, Mr. President, but if this is the change we could believe in, then you have lost this voter, and possibly millions more."

What do you think about what I wrote to the president? How else have you been disappointed as an Obama supporter by the Administration? Comment below.

Gigapute

What a rough start to my store! Not one sale so far! Maybe I just need more exposure. I have an ad on Google going around. So far, it's generated about 4 clicks a day for 4 days. That's not horrible I guess. But it doesn't translate into sales. I'm no expert on this stuff. I'm just starting out. I wonder if I'm missing something.

Health Care

Thank goodness the health care debate is still raging. Here is what Senator Stabenow from Michigan had to say about the Finance committee's bill.
